Goodreads x Read for Earth
"Read for Earth" is a branding campaign for Goodreads positioned at the intersection of knowledge and climate action. It is designed to incentivize users to read more books about the climate crisis, critically reflect on what they've read, connect with one another, and then find and join climate action initiatives in their area.
"The Reading Garden" Installation
Besides the website redesign, a site installation space will accompany this campaign to invite users to read in nature. "The Reading Garden" is a community reading garden that is built on plants and organic material to create a space that changes over time to symbolize learning and growth. I was inspired by the work of Maya Lin and nurse logs, fallen forest trees that end up nurturing moss, plants, and fungi. The center of the garden uses the idea of nurse logs and features a "Hugelkultur bed," using decaying logs and debris to build a garden.
"The Reading Garden" Interactive Screen
At "The Reading Garden," there will be a digital interactive screen which allows users to log in books they've read at the site and see what other books have been read there.
